Swiss Monitoring of Adverse Drug Events (SwissMADE)

Part of the SNSF-funded Smarter Health Care initiative (NRP74)

SwissMADE

The project aimed at developing procedures to automatically detect mentions of adverse drug events in hospitalized elderly patients who were prescribed antithrombotic drugs [Colic et al, 2021].

Additionally, since the beginning of 2021 we have initiated a collaboration with the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale (EOC, the cantonal hospital of the Canton of Ticino), aimed at processing clinical records efficiently. In particular we explored techniques for anonymization of clinical reports in order to enable their usage for secondary scientific usage, and we explored supervised machine learning methods to assign ICD codes to reports for clinical purposes, as opposed to the existing approaches where ICD coding is used only for billing.
